Looking for a fun way to add some sparkle and shimmer this holiday season? Here are a few simple steps to shine bright (without going overboard).
Nails: Why not add a bit of sparkly/chunky glitter polish on an accent nail or on the outer edge of your pinkie? This gives a little pop of fun, whether it’s accenting your Starbucks cup, Veuve flute or cuppa tea--pinkies up! I recommend butter London as it’s an “eight-free” company, which means its nail polishes are some of the purest, non-toxic options on the market. Try Pairing La Moss with Dust Up, Mums the Word with Brass Goggles, or Her Majesty's Red with The 444.
Eyes: Add a little sultry shimmer to your eyes. I love a good kohl pencil with some color or sparkle. Black Gold by laura mercier is perfect for grown up glamour. Simply smudge the pencil on your outer lash line and blend for a little pop. Night Breed shadow by Nars also gives a sultry look when smudged into the lash line. I also recommend the new hardwired shadows from Nars for an added metallic sheen on the eyes.
Face: Add subtle highlights to your cheekbones, nose, and forehead with Hourglass ambient powders. Or play with a bit more shimmer with High Beam by Benefit.
Hair: Add some temporary sparkle to your locks by adding a colored mascara to your hair. I love the Electralash in Starlight by butter London. Gold highlights in my hair? Yes please! You can also use this mascara on your lower eyelashes or in your eyebrows for some fun added sparkle.
Body: Try adding a little glow to your arms, decollate, and legs by slipping on one of these shimmers: NarsBody Glow, Bathina by Benefit, BeautycounterLustro Shimmer Oil, or Million Dollar Tan’s All That Shimmers. If your shimmer game is coming on too strong, try applying lotion prior to the shimmer, or mixing the shimmer with your regular body lotion to tone the effects down.
Lips: Add pretty bits of sparkle over any lip color you have or simply wear the a sparkly gloss on its own for a pucker that pops! Some great options for this effect are Fireworks, Flirt, or Pillow Talk by butter London, Spark by CHANEL, or Sparkling by laura mercier.
2017 is your year to shimmer and shine, so shine on!
Note: For the mamas-to-be out there, if you’re experiencing sensitivity around your eyes, be careful with sparkly liners and mascaras as these may irritate. For a more natural, gentle shimmer, try something like Guava or Starlight by laura mercier or play with a baked shadow that can be used either wet or dry, like Black Karat by laura mercier (when applied wet/damp it's less likely to come off, which may mean less irritation).
