There are many reasons to love smoothies: they're delicious, healthy, and portable! A well-made smoothie can provide you with up to 3 servings of your daily requirement of fruit and vegetables, all in one glass. It's the perfect no-mess commuter breakfast, lunch-when-there's-no-time-for lunch, and that extra boost to get you from work to the gym. And, depending on your recipe, they can be quite beautiful – hello Pinterest!

But did you know your smoothie may also be great for your skin? That's right, eating (or drinking) fruits and vegetables has been shown to improve skin tone and give you a major antioxidant boost too. To supercharge your smoothie's skin benefits, consider adding herbs, which can be found at your local farmers' market or health food store.

Wolfberries or Gou Ji berries (often spelled Gouji or Goji) provide a real powerhouse kick of antioxidants. Just a handful of Goji berries tonify the blood and expand your Qi, or life force. The berries have a slightly sour tang and are the perfect complement to sweeter smoothie fruits, like bananas or mangoes.

Try tossing some hemp seeds in your smoothie for a great protein boost and a solid serving of healthy, necessary fats like Omega 3s and gamma-linolenic acid. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, hemp seeds are called hou ma ren and are used for moistening the skin, reducing skin rashes and irritations, and keeping your digestion regular.

Here's a recipe for a delicious Wolfberry and Hemp Seed smoothie to enjoy any time of the day. You can use fresh or frozen produce and should be able to buy all of these ingredients at your local health food store.
